Big drive today. I think the longest of the trip and mostly through torrential rain. The very brief glimpses we had of Slovenia showed a lovely green picturesque land. But of the 4 or 5 hours it took us to drive through, we saw only minutes through the grey curtain of rain. Venice has been a bit of a Yellowstone Park déjà vu for us. From Paella to Pizza…

... had a Paella feast as a family. Some friends of Jo and John’s came too which was great…and the Paella and a traditional Valencian variety of chicken and rabbit. Delicious.

The same family that came for lunch returned that evening so Mike, Shelley and Jo and John could head out on the town for a Tapas crawl. There are so many great places to eat and Mike and Shelley were taken to a few local favourites.

Today we decided to go see the Rialto Bridge and San Marco Basilica, both are famous sights to see. We had a map and just wandered where we felt like going. Some of the alleyways are so narrow you can stand in the middle and touch both sides. The architecture here is so beautiful. The one drawback is there is only one public bathroom which we had to spend $1.50 to use, so we are not drinking much ...

... to) and also found all the tourists. However, we headed away from the main parts and found a nice little place to have brunch then strolled on. After brunch it was definitely busier, but still reasonably cool as the buildings are so close together.
