I am not usually one for tours but time is short and they don't take you to loads of commercial places to make you feel you have to buy stuff. Once we finished touring the fort we decided there was still lots of daylight to drive up to Lagoa do Fogo (fire lake). This volcano is still considered active although it is filled with water. This story starts in the beautiful island chain of the Azores (pronounced a zshor esh) on the largest island of Sao Miguel about 1000 km off the mainland of Portugal.
