... we arrived at a place called Bar le Duc, and after a quick drive through the town centre I asked George to take us to a shopping centre, since we needed to restock the fridge.

... go with a 17.5 meter barge? The VNF people know what boats are on their waterway and in general, know who is driving them as well.


We had a couple of missions in mind for our trip: 1) find a winter mooring 2) visit smaller champagne producers 3) drink champagne 4) buy champagne 5) take lots of baths 6) eat meals I didn’t have to cook. I can report that all were accomplished!

My enduring memories of the Champagne-Bourgogne canal will be soggy. From the day we started the canal to now, as I sit on Encore waiting for Stan to get back from returning the rental car - there have been only a very few days - one was the 90+ degree day in Langres - that have not been cloudy and cool and most have had at least some rain.
