When we got to Soissons, on the ring road we passed La Sucrerie - an enormous sugar factory, with belching chimneys and huge piles of sugarbeet, overlaid with a sickly sweet cooking smell - it was just like Bury St Edmund's!

... at lunchtime today - when I tried to upload the route for the next section of the journey I got a 'route calculation error' from my GPS. There has been a sort of friendly rivalry between Ian and myself throughout the trip - Ian prefers his paper maps and I put all my faith in the GPS. ... we arrived at a place called Bar le Duc, and after a quick drive through the town centre I asked George to take us to a shopping centre, since we needed to restock the fridge.
