... mountain lake. We strolled through neat little villages "hamlets" with old barns from the 1800's. They were adjacent to modern chalets... But many of the old barns appeared to be occupied by families. Much of today's hike was in the trees which provided lost shade. Since we left Refugio Bonatti the temperature has been so much ...

We are rested and ready for what is reported to be the easiest hiking day of the tour. It is a "valley walk" between La Fouly and Champex Switzerland - probably about 11 miles. We stopped for a break yesterday afternoon about 2k from La Fouly alongside a beautiful stream. we had been hiking for almost five hours up and over the pass into Switzerland from Italy when se fellow hikers said they had just finished eating delicious pasta at a village around the corner. Sounded ...

We passed thru beautiful farmland, Swiss villages, and forested areas before arriving in Champex, a beautiful town on the top of the Col. It had a lovely lake, less than half the size of Wendouree. As it was a Sunday, and hot, there were lots of people in pedal boats, little rowing boats and canoes, as well as ...

... I had to put a hand on each side of the walls to hold myself up. It's the only time my legs have been sore, and to make matters worse, I've been eating quite a bit of cheese. There will be no cheese for me, today. After the stiff climb to cross the Col, it was downhill, dropping 1000mts for the rest of the days hike. We stopped for a picnic lunch beside a fast flowing stream, which gave us a good chance to dip our legs in and give them a chance to recover. We ...

Woke up to a surprisingly sunning morning. Went for a hike up towards the Matterhorn. Halfway through the hike, we reached a small village called Zmutt. At first it looked deserted, but then we found a restaurant that was actually open and serving a full menu. Nice surprise! Had a beer here before heading back down into town. In town we went through some stores and then made dinner in our ...
