... sledding and his answer was - because you can go really fast, and crash without hurting yourself!
It wasn't really cold up the mountain, about 3º C and the sun was out, to wear snow gear one could have been over dressed!. There hasn't been a fall of snow in the past week so the snow wasn't fresh and quite icy and there were a few incidents of slipping over.
It was certainly worth the trip up to this place for a inexpensive day of fun, and no churches ...
... turned out to be all good. It was so easy to get the car that we were on the road to Verbier by 9:30. The scenery was stunning along the way! It was only about an hour n half to Verbier so we were on the mountain by 11:30. Not the earliest morning ever but not too bad. We parked down the bottom and got the gondola up. It was such a nice clear day that we got such good views! We were completely surrounded by mountains. Verbier also doesn't have much snow so not all ...

We got settled in our apartment and then went to get all our skis, boots, helmets, lift passes, goggles, gloves etc (ouch this place is expensive too) and then went into the centre of town to see the season opening party and the lighting of the town Christmas tree. It was lots of fun and had a very good atmosphere in a swiss-german kind of way and then we called it a night early so as to be ready for day 1.

Oops, no notes again! Refuge Elena quite new and modern. Large dorms but partitioned into bunks of 4. Located on a high ridge overlooking the valley, where we had a long break and arvo tea. Met some interesting groups of Italians, see the funny hats. It seems that all of Italy has these 2 weeks off, so the trails and refuges are full. Dinner in a lovely dining room, food pasta as usual. ...
