... to Verona a change of trains and then on to Milano. Our taxi driver was a bit late because of traffic. He decided to take us down the Roman road to avoid the main roads. This was small and in Aus is it would be one lane/way only. Not here! He gave us a lovely history lesson on the way. ... blackberries, grapes and plums. After about 8 km we ended at the lake and had a lovely swim. The water was cool and it was very different to the dams back home. Clear water instead of murky, pebbles instead of mud, sunbathers on grass, deck chairs and towels instead of sandy beach, there was one little caravan for food and the town really did not meet the touristy bit. I think the original goals of the frescos was to help the rather lowly Vintler brothers gain status in the Tyrolean aristocracy, but if you look closely you can learn a lot about about the culture and styles of the day. ... a couple light pasta entrees and we did not disagree. Chris had a ricotta and spinach tortellati ragout and mine was tagliatelle fatte (kind of a wide, flat noodle) with radicchio and bresaola. They were quickly prepared by a jovial Italian cook, who, when he poked his head out, seemed relieved we ordered something requiring cooking. Such a lucky accident we wondered in there.
