    ... 10 k an hour was very respectable for us. After checking in we wandered down a side street and found a little gem of a ristorante.....with rain still in the air we ate in a vaulted barrelled cellar bar from a tiny menu and it was squisito!     ... to give us a boost. As we neared our destination, spirits picked up, and with a final push (literally, as we were simply too knackererd, and too scared of the traffic, to ride up the steep slopes of this hilltop fortress town) we made it to the hotel before 7pm.
