Weather glorious again so took the funicular up to Mercury's Vista. Quite a ride and the view was spectacular. We could see about 15 villages in the valley below from the Mercury Tower. There were also huge samples of the variety of rocks found at Baden Baden, and they dated from 142 million to 750 million years old. After our return trip on the funicular we caught a little open tourist train and learnt some more ...

After a bit of shopping and a coffee we were back on the ship. That afternoon we were bussed to Heidelberg as the boats cannot get through the weir. Walked around town ...

... Yes we did. Somewhat revived, we headed off once more. Further treats were in store for us.

The path now took us through acres of oil refineries. Did I mention that it was a hot day? Well, all that concrete and metal seemed to radiate even more heat and by the time we were cycling into the community of Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen I had had it. I just wanted to lie down somewhere cool and when a shady piece of lawn ...

    ... town.

Strasbourg is home to some large European institutions: the Europen Parliament, the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights, the European Ombudsman of the European Union and the International Institute of Human Rights to name a few. The cycle route took us past several of the large modern buildings housing some of these. The European Parliament complex is a group of round futuristic ...
