We left Split and headed up the Dalmation coast to the National Park of Plitvice. We went on a two-hour hike on the trails around the 16 lakes and waterfalls. It actually reminds me of home - trees, fresh water, mountain air. It was nice to get off the bus and connect with nature again. A nice break from all the cities and towns so far. ...

Our hopes that the torrents of rain that we arrived to yesterday afternoon would rain themselves out overnight were unfounded as we awoke to another wet day at the campsite this morning. I packed a day bag, lined with a plastic bag to keep the contents dry, and lined up with the rest of the tour group to make my packed lunch. It was clear that almost nobody had heeded my advice to wear shorts (as it's easier to dry wet legs and put a warm pair of pants on that wear cold ...

(And conveniently forget to mention the mass expanses of lush beaches, soft sand, and clear aqualine blue ...

Jill promised me that Plitvice Lakes would follow Krka just fine, and that we were actually moving up in grandeur. I have to say that I was skeptical. As it turns out it gave the day we had at Krka some good competition in terms of what we saw. Unfortunately the heat and lack of proper food combined with seven hours on the trails after an early start made for a rough day for me by the end. Plitvice lakes is the biggest, best known ...

... we tried to stick off the main road through as best we can so we went through a few small side roads and a little village called Mukinje to get there and we managed to get slightly lost in the woods... I joked that we may find a bear to later read a book and find out there actually are bears in plitvice. We eventually got back onto a more recognised road and I asked Charlie if we were near a major road as I good hear ...
