... ok but not splendid and we wanted to eat outside but there were only inside tables but it still had a bit of ambiance. It didn't matter anyway as the company was superb and afterwards we found the most delightful gelato ice-cream on the way back to the bus. Said goodbye to the Cinque Terre with a lovely bowl of seafood risotto lovingly cooked by a very Italian looking chef. Spent most of the day on trains watching the countryside go by. We had an interesting time with 10 minutes to find the platform and change trains in Milan only to find someone in our seats. It seems that happens a lot. People just sit anywhere but will move if you turn up with the ticket for that seat. ...
... Switzerland is beautiful and you get a great view of the Alps from the train. Interlaken is situated in between two lakes, in a valley of the mountains. Karens cousin Monika picked us up from the station and took us out for a drink at Hooters. I got a Magners Irish cider, pretty good. We went home and dropped our packs. ... was simple but wonderful - pasta, salad and a small wine in a huge glass. We splurged on local delicacies from a pasticceria on our way home. (See separate note on carb overload.) Plus I couldn't resist visiting a supermarket to marvel at the local produce - breads, olives, cheeses, prosciutto, cheese and prosciutto, cheese wrapped in prosciutto - all divine.
