Hotel Annemarie Amsterdam

After spending 2 hours on a ridiculously crowed train I arrived in Amsterdam. I didn't want to be impressed by this city but I must say it is really, really cool. The first evening I just wandered around and took in the city and tried not to get hit by the crazy people on bikes. The canals are really pretty and the city is just really lovely.

The next day was my day of walking. I did 2 walking tour - one during the day just on the main sights in the city and then one on the red light...

Early Friday morning I stepped onto the Amsterdam train platform with my new sandals I bought in Bremen (a horrible place that I will never return to), and a whole new attitude. I knew that I would never have a bad day in Europe again because I had already had my worst. Yes, Bremen got worse after I posted the note on Thursday, but I won't dwell on it.

I really enjoyed Amsterdam . . . and not because of the 5AM bar closing time. Everything is so "earth-conscious." Everyone on bicycles -- very few cars. Architecture is very gothic. People are very friendly.

So Matt, James, and I had such a good time in Dublin, that they decided to join me in Amsterdam. F'in great times. More debauchery ensued. Also, so you cannot take pictures of the prostitutes in the redlight district, otherwise you would have seen one or two.

August 29, 2004 Our our way to Amsterdam this morning, we stopped off in Antwerp for "lunch", but only found a vending machine that can us some chips and a chocolate waffle that Ken said tasted like a "generic ho-ho" this time. Arrived in Amsterdam on the 1st of May the price of the hostel was pretty steep for what we got. Eight of us in a room with one shower/toilet for 35 Euro's each per night, free internet if you can get on and breakfast but only if you are up before 9!! and your only allowed one cup of coffee if they are counting!!!!
