The second stop into the Black Forest region was the Maulbronn Abbey, a Monastery built sometime in the 1300s. The pamphlet we got mentioned it was over 800 years old, but I'm getting confused as some components were a little younger than that, like 600 years old. In any case, it was incredible. They had some descriptions of the masonry that was done to construct it. I just can't imagine the hard work ...
... 5 or 6 miles of queuing traffic there ahead was roadwork's.
Finally through that and an extra 12 or so minutes on my journey I was at
the off-ramp for Heidelberg.
I have seen many photos of this great city and it sure looks interesting so
now was my chance to go and find out for myself.
Once into the city I got the first sight of loads of traffic lights for a
long time. That is something places such as Austria and Switzerland do put up on
every street ...
... funicular ride to go to the top of the mountain but I had other plans.
Time to leave the mountain and back down for coffee and cake. Found a very cute place, there is no shortage of lovely cafes, and had a Cappucino & apple cake mit schlag(cream) , my first cake of the whole trip. Hope your all impressed!!!
My next plan was to take the 39 bus all the way to the top of the mountain, the Konigstuhl, and then back ...

Considering the weather, there were plenty of people around at the top with a group of Japanese tourists taking photos and a couple of mountain bikers braving the tough conditions for a bit of downhill fun. It was quite cool and windy so we didn't stick around long and continued following the trail around the children's park and towards Neckargemünd, There is a real plethora of trails around ...
