On Wednesday we loaded up the car with people and drove down to Speyer (Schpeyer) to take a look at the Christmas market. Even though Speyer isn't that far away, only 24kms, I have only been there twice: once for the Medieval Market and once to visit the technical museum.

The temperature is 28 degrees and snow showers. Heidelberg has 150,000 inhabitants. There are 6 universities. Students don't pay to go to university. Anybody can attend but must speak German. Went to the Kulturbrauerei, which is at Leyergasse, way down at the far end of Hauptstrasse. Ate venison and the german noodles - Spaetzle. It was raining quite consistently so I went to Kaufhof to find an umbrella, almost at the point of sale when I realised it was 60 Euros... went to chemist got one for 5 Euros. Awoke at 4:15 am - sigh.
... the longest shopping street in Germany. Went to the old bridge and walked along the Neckar River. Beautiful weather again, about 30 degrees. I'll go out again tonight to get some photos, and then early tomorrow morning, as its pretty busy with bus and boat tour groups during the day. Enjoying the atmosphere here, with a medieval city, but also a university culture, so lots ...
