      ... castle ruin and picturesque churches.

      We stopped in for lunch at the local restaurant and checked out the view from the top of the castle wall, which is pretty much an empty shell these days. The catholic church was quite quaint inside, but we had to keep moving on.

      ... Prince Frederick married Elizabeth Stuart and brought her from England to live in the castle. They made renovations to the castle and also helped make Heidelberg the cultural centre of Europe. Outside the castle, Frederick had Elizabeth's Gate built as a surprise birthday present in one night. Unfortunately the 30 year war with France intervened and the French destroyed and burnt the castle in 1693 and they did a good job of it as soldiers in those days ...
