Av. Nahuel Huapi 1911 Villa La Angostura, Province of Neuquen, Patagonia, Argentina, 8407, 2944-494224
Following along on our map of where Che Guevara made his now famous motorcycle ride, we left Bariloche for the quaint Villa la Angostura, which is located on the same lake as Bariloche, but near the NE corner. Again, the main part of town was about 4 blocks long and rich with log style buildings. Very cute. The main attraction here is to either take a boat ride, hike or mountain bike to the Parque Nacional de Arrayanes, which is a forest full of cinnamon colored trees. We took the 35 minute b...
Villa la Angostura, Argentina krisandmarilynOur first glimpse of Bariloche, strangely, was in a cafe in La Paz, Bolivia, on a poster. We had a brief conversation about where we thought it might be and concluded perhaps somewhere in Scandinavia. Wrong. San Carlos de Bariloche, looking like a town in the Swiss Alps, sits on the lakeside of the gorgeous Lago Nahuel Huapi. This is the Lake District Argentinian style, with crystal clear lakes, rivers, waterfalls, glaciers and snow capped peaks stretching from above 40 degrees to below 50 de...
Bariloche, Argentina mhistieMonday we arrived in Bariloche. The landscape was a reddish desert, more like I had imagined Arizona to be, but then as you approach the city from the airport, it gets more alpine, a bit like Switzerland. We stayed in a lovely little Hosteria called El Ciervo Rojo, all wooden and cosy, and full of Israeli students. It was lovely & sunny so in the afternoon we took a bus along the lake to the Llao Llao peninsula and took a hike to the top of a mountain to get fantastic views of the sapphir...
San Martin de los Andes - Villa Angostura, Argentina stefi.usa... you meet who has a vibrant energy emanating from her. We write down web addresses so we can look at each others' photos. Our plan today is to drive and stay overnight in Villa Traful. This will take us closer to Bariloche, where we need to be tomorrow to fly back to Buenos Aires. We could return on the Seven Lakes Route, however I have read about these cave paintings that are accessible from Route 63, a dirt road that does lead ...
Villa Traful, Argentina journeyer... the lake and distant mountains. We are pleased to be here! We talk with Andres at the front desk about the restaurants, hikes, waterfalls and trees. He calls to make a reservation for the boat to the Arrayanes National Park and find there is no answer; we will need to try again tomorrow morning. When I say that I love trees, he suggests an old cohie tree that is 300-400 years old that has a very large trunk. There are also two waterfalls ...
Villa La Angostura, Argentina journeyer... healing state, I wait patiently, and waited and waited, but nothing happened! Guess I am not a spiritual person then, or maybe I am beyond healing! So we decided to just get more drunk instead and invoke and messy Irish state! We hit the Irish bar for a pint and shot, bad shot, bad move, I near invoked the Cactus back up! We then got refused entry into the Wilkenny pub, the place that lets and Tom, Dick and Harry in, but we were to far gone to be considered good for business ...
Bariloche, Argentina che-mati... I just knew which one was going to be made for me! I dare not look! So I looked away from the mirror and to the ground, but that was the worst thing I could have done. Everyone knows the first rule of survival "don't look down" but I forgot and my vision became blurred as clumps and lumps of long strands of my precious locks leafed their way to my focal point and came to rest on my lap! I was devastated! The rest of the butchery is a blur! I remember ...
Bariloche, Argentina mrsplaying_dead... Actually, I learnt on the chocolate tour how Patagonia got its name. Skip this paragraph if you don't want a history lesson. Our guide said to us as he was explaining, "has nothing to do with chocolate, but is quite interesting." There was a copy of a 1562 map of the Americas. Most things looked similar to today's maps, but they had drawn pictures of the peoples of each region. The "patagones" of the southern part of Argentina were huge, compared to all ...
