... Lonau and stopped at the Kaiser Pfalz. The city of Glosar and castle were amazing.


Once in Lonau, we had a marvelous dinner with Bernd and his extended family, including his aunt and uncle.

... Belsen concentration camp. Many of their bodies were buried in mass graves in the former camp following liberation. So far, only 10,000 victims of the concentration camp are known by name (Anne Frank is one). The cemetery that we saw contains 15 individual and 13 mass graves. Originally we were going to go see the Bergen-Belsen POW & Concentration Camp. However, we found out the bus doesn't run on Sundays and all the car rental places are closed on Sunday. Therefore, we headed into town to see if anything is going on and to just hang out. Well, since it's Sunday and some countries still believe in a family/rest days, most everything was closed. There are almost 500 half-timbered houses, which make this town look like your traditional & cliche German town! Our first stop in toeing the town (besides the cute shop we found and bought scarves) was the Ducal Palace. The foundation walls are from 1292 and was the residence of the Guelphic dukes until 1705.
