My night in Santiago left me with--pathetically-my first major hangover ever on the morning of Friday, May 2nd. Having gone to bed feeling just ticketyboo, I was a little astonished to wake up feeling like I'd just travelled thru time on the floor of a New York City taxi. It took a few hours and dry heaves to shake, but I eventually recovered some 12 hours later. I only wish I was exaggerating. The nice people at the Hotel Montecarlo in Santiago were nice enough to let me stay a little later ...
Viņa del Mar, Chile dorothy_zbornakVina del Mar was lovely. Having fully recovered from my night of revelry in Santiago a day and a half earlier, I pledged to myself to get up fairly early in order to make the most of my time in Vina. I have to say, I felt immediately at home and comfortable in this city. It felt very resort-like, almost like a film set. The palmtrees, the beach, the pretty houses all contributed to a very satisfying many walks about. Breakfast began in the restaurant of the Hotel Andelue and consisted of pear...

Vina del Mar, Chile malvada... but not before stopping at a neat little cafe. I ordered arroz con leche. It's similar to our rice pudding.

After we got back from the tour, Margarita was waiting for me at PUCV to bring me back to the house. My family is so sweet, and they're always willing to pick me up instead of making me take the bus (el micro) back to the house. Every time I see them, or anytime I meet someone new, it's custom to give ...
Vina del Mar, Chile etroesch... Tulli woke me out of a dead sleep around 2:30am for the border crossing. There was a blind man sitting across the aisle from Tulli (she helped him fill out his customs paper and found out he was from France and in S.A. to learn Spanish), so I attempted to help him off the bus and came outside to find everyone lined up and ready to march into the customs building. Maybe because it was the middle of the night and everyone was sleep walking, but I found the whole ...
Vina del Mar, Chile krloop21... of the city are located. They are accessed via very steep flights of steps or the quaint ascensores (cable cars) which take 8 passengers at a time up the hill. These ascensores were built between 1883 & 1914 & are now in serious need of repair, but are fun to ride in (once). We went up the Ascensore Concepcion (which was far from immaculate) to the arty-***** "Cerro Concepcion" district where the artists try to flog you very good ...
Valparaiso, Chile chris-barbara... From the bus station in Santiago I caught the metro to my new hostel 'Andes Hostel'. Luckily the Metro is across the road from the hostel, so I didn't have to walk too far. I had lunch at the cafe next door and got talking to an Israeli guy. Now I'm back at the hostel, thinking about having a siesta. Its really hot and sunny here in Santiago, definitely the type of weather you need to relax in. I leave here early tomorrow for Peru.
Valparaiso, Chile danasv... offer - bad news for his is that our rating of his **** lodging just got worse...! We then lugged our backpacks to the bus station storage office and walked for ages trying to find a walking path into the huge park on our map, discovered that it was a different park to the botanical gardens which were the other side if town, gave up and spent our afternoon on the beach. After our farewell to our trusty traveling companions ...

He was also talking about all the bureaucracy that a potential businessowner has to go through to start a business that a lot of times discourages people from being entrepeneurs. Anyway, when I got to Viña it was like a whole new world even though the two cities are so close ...
Vina del Mar, Chile gt4715b... wondered the city once more before catching our bus at 5.15pm to Calama. The weather was still cloudy and rainy so it was hard to see much from the sights but we gave it a go. We went up in one of the city lifts, the city is on different levels so they built lifts in the late19th early 20th century to make it easier for people to get home, we then walked down the steps and wondered around the shops for a while before returning to the hostel for our bags.
