... book so I could show him where I wanted to go (and negotiate the price). He flounced around to the back of his car and slammed the lid of the boot/trunk. How fiery of him! I called him back, showed him the address, and asked how much. He told me 40 pesos. I told him that mi amigo dice 30 pesos. He stuck to his guns at 40. I caved.
At the end of a ten minute taxi ride through cobbled, really NARROW roads, I turned up at the brown door in the red wall of ...
This is a much belated summary of the fantastic weekend I spent at the Cervantino Festival in Guanajuato a few weeks ago. Cervantino is a huge international arts festival that runs for 2 weeks at the end of October. Tons of performances in theaters, in the street, in outdoor amphitheaters...everything from dance to opera to theater to jazz orchestras, cuban jazz, electronica, and related after-, before ...
Guanajuato, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico dylbeano... airport, about half way between Leon and Guanajuato.
The next day (Thursday, November 4) we drove into Leon, and I was treated to an expert walking tour of the city, including some of the many leather and shoe shops and the great market, as well as the manadory, very impressive cathedrals. In the afternoon, Daniel needed to attend to some business, so he dropped me at the new, very flash museum, which was featuring one display about the ...
... 1.5 hours each. I love them. The first one is basic things (greetings, numbers, etc.) It was like a review for me. I understood about 98% of what she said. The second one is pronunciation. I was doing great until the "r". I could roll my r's great (the teacher was shocked) but, I was having a problem with my reg. r's and "g" (this weird hacking sound you make in your throat). I thought i ...

You eat it on the curb or at the little bar they have. Also, if you get a drink in a glass bottle, NEVER try to take it with you. They recycle them and get money. You ask them to make it to go, and they pour it into a sandwich type bag and give you a a straw. You also get this if you get a certain type of milk/ice cream drink.
Guanajuato, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico heidishappening... really a breakfast food person. Here I have had chicken covered in verde Salsa (hot ) for breakfast, or quesadillas with verde salsa. There is always fresh fruit. I have even had a gigantic red poblano pepper stuffed with rice and cheese. It was amazing.
The sleep schedule is more me too. Too bad soon I should be in the 9 am class. Normally I go to bed ...
... they could see something in Mexico first.
This week I got another chance to go to the orphanage! I love helping at the orphanage...so much so that they asked if I can come on Mondays for the next few weeks as well. Of course I'm so excited. This orphanage has kids up to kindergarten age at which point they move to another orphanage. When I go I help with the babies. Yesterday there were 8 babies, but it's great that one ...
... for them, I also added some motions in hopes that they would understand what the song is saying. Yesterday, I decided to tape them singing this. They had a little trouble with the verse, but they've got the chorus down pat! I hope you enjoy it...I just think it's so cute. Carminda asked if I could have the kids sing it in church the Friday night before Father's Day, and I think that's the perfect idea!
Enjoy the video! I'll write more soon!
... this church is up and running, Dany and Carminda feel called to move to a town 30 minutes from here to do it all again. They told me they hate to leave now that it finally feels like home here, but they are here to serve the Lord, and He is calling them to Pueblo Nuevo. From what they say, it sounds like they will have an even bigger task there as there are even less evangelical christians, and less churches. So...what am I doing ...
Irapuato, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico julievan... first evening just wandering around and, for the want of another less cliched phrase, soaking up the atmosphere. I could have spent hours just gazing at the beautiful buildings. They are mainly built in the old European colonial style and for once, the beauty is not limited to just Cathedrals. We sat in the Jardin de la Union (Union garden) for a while and listened to a Mariachi style band crooning out the love tunes..(Although with our dodgy Spanglish, he could have been ...
