Pondicherry Pondicherry didn't do much to us. It's a town. The architecture still shows that it used to be French. It has a post-office. palace hotel (opposite Amala lodge) rented us a room for Rs 400 and then turned off the Air-conditioning and demanded extra money. Fortunately the only (relatively) bad experience we had we hotels in India. We lectured the owner on the subject of doing honest business. It probably doesn't help, but it makes you feel better and we scared of some other tourist...

Dharamsala, Himāchal Pradesh, India sonja_and_david... up. The
assistant writes out a prescription, tells me that I will get
rheumatoid arthritis unless I take this medicine (which looks like goat
***** but I would guess tastes worse than goat *****) for a really long
time. Have to go back next week to see how I'm progressing. I left feeling relieved that I did not have to worry about my energetic kidney but who wants to hear that they are going to get rheumatoid arthritis??
In case you are wondering, the ...
... tea its usually just a tea bag in hot water and she was shocked, she said Americans must be very lazy and I said perhaps that is true. While I have had a few mistakes, I have been very much enjoying my time here in Dharamsala. I am now down to my last week here before heading to Nepal for the rest of the program. Unfortunately, the Chinese fearing protests from the No-Losar movement have closed the border so we will no longer be able to travel to the TAR ...
Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, India k0e0n0z... seat who we were talking to, named Roger, looked back and said in a very hush voice, " Oh my, his Holiness is on the plane" We both looked in complete excitement...and to my surprise and amazement H.H. the Dalai Lama was sitting in the third window seat from the back. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!. OOOOOOOOMMMMMMGGGGGGGG ......AHHHH! The monk, Roger, and I all put our hand in the prayer position and signaled his respect. He made eye contact with me and ...
Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, India face... little shrines and prair flags put on the land side and spectacular dusk over the montains on the other, it was magical really nice, it was in osidarity for those being kiled in Tibet. We didn't get to see the Dalai Lhama, but he was here in Mcleod, just hidden away (they didn't have celebrations out of solidarity for those being killed in Tibet, there's been alot of violence over the past two months).
Dharamsala, India jaredsamjoe... this meeting. We arrived at Delhi Airport with less than thirty minutes to go before the departure of the Deccan flight to Dhramshala. The check in staff agreed to take us on without the baggage. I got on to the flight without my suitcase! Dharamshala is a small airport. There was Lobsang, a representative sent to meet us ,waiting at the exit. Drive up to Mcleodgunj is like driving to any hill station in North India. We are staying in Chinar Guest House, booked by some Tibetan ...
Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, India kalyangAnother run from Green Hotel to Dharamkot. Up the mountain road, through the pine forest, past monkeys lounging and exchanging possibly meaningful stares with me. Passed a yogi meditating on his porch. The saddhu I admired so much the day before sat down next to me for breakfast and made a toothless grin and in what I'd call a kind of toothless whistle pronounced my computer very good. He watched me typing so ...
Dharamsala, India altnomad... Tibet than Tibetans. China claims that Tibet is an internal matter; everyone else please butt out. It claims to have brought millions of dollars into Tibet in areas like health care, education, and business. It paints the Dalai Lama as a dissident who is agitating for violence in China, and that the average Tibetan supports China's presence in Tibet. The truth, as often is the case, is probably somewhere in the midst of the two opposing sides. But on this, I'm siding with ...
Dharamsala (McCleodganj), India djchurch... which would have been bad enough even if they weren't all sat on such a steep incline covered with lose stones and dry soil. As I made my scrabbling and precarious way through them I sent cascades of pebbles and dirt down to those who were lower down and was a great source of hilarity for many monks (most of whom seem to have a wicked sense of humour!).
HH, still seated, spoke for some length (in Tibetan) and then the rest of the morning was taken up with various performances ...
