Pondicherry Pondicherry didn't do much to us. It's a town. The architecture still shows that it used to be French. It has a post-office. palace hotel (opposite Amala lodge) rented us a room for Rs 400 and then turned off the Air-conditioning and demanded extra money. Fortunately the only (relatively) bad experience we had we hotels in India. We lectured the owner on the subject of doing honest business. It probably doesn't help, but it makes you feel better and we scared of some other tourist...

... walk round the town. You actually stay in Mcloed Ganj as that is much bigger than Dharamsala and is where the Tibetan government in exile and Dali Lama are (one of the main reasons why many peole come here)
Mcleod Ganj was a bit smaller than I expected, the steep road up to the rest of the town not! Wow this is going to be a killer on my knees! Just up the steep steep hill found a great little cafe for tea and apple pie (yes I know I am in ...
Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, India carole91... God Shiva on the columnar pillars outside the main temple area. Inside there was a statue of Buddha. The flyer they handed out did not give a date of construction. The Hindus apparently, unlike the Maya were less concerned with the calendar. It is now protected.

We drove on Dhraramsala, and on to McLeod Ganj, home to His Eminence the Dali Lama, of Tibet. There is a large Tibetan community ...
Kangra, Himāchal Pradesh, India thomasgillam... dry them up in some tissue...but the tissues they had at the restaurant weren't very absorbant. We salted them and ate them and honestly...I don't think french fries ever tasted so good. I was so hungry that I think ANYTHING would've tasted fabulous. Sara and Eyal came back. They said that they had found a place for the night. They picked up their bags and we all walked over to Loseling Guest House. We dumped our bags off and went to ...
Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, India athenaDharamsala is famous for being the home of the Dalai Lama, but in truth, he lives a few kilometers up the hill, just outside of a little town called Mcleod Ganj. This is where I stayed for almost a week and made some good friends. There are a few neighboring villages and a little waterfall to walk to, but really, this was just a good place to relax. There is a massive Tibetan population, due to the fact that this is also where the Tibetan ...
Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, India brettpaton... Himalayas are high.

And Ness short for Vanessa who is a treasure. Tall graceful blondie, so full of rich wisdom and confidence...grounded and present, clear and guided, she speaks with assurance and listens with an open heart and eyes. A real gem, I rarely meet people that seem this worthy of complete trust.

Other cast of players are my yoga instructor Lalit and his fiance' Ivana. Both incredible ...
Dharamsala, India sonicbridges... has been beating everyone in dutch blitz on a daily basis. (Doannie and Holly: The Canadians were in Vietnam, prior to India, and they have convinced us that we should have come with y'all. Apparently,Vietnam is much cleaner and far less of a hassle to travel then India). So, I have now survived 6 days of fever, as well as an attack by a gang of monkeys. Theresa, the Canadians, and I were walking up a path on ...
Mcleod Gange, India greenwhs... i know it still makes me laugh! Helen and i are atrocious at English and don't even speak it properly ourselves, so there's going to be a bunch of Tibetans walking round speaking Geordie English shortly!! What's the biggest joke is we have to teach them English Grammar... i haven't got a clue what is a noun, pronoun or adverb!! So that's where Helen met her belovered monk, she thinks he's beautiful! There are about 30 in our class in a morning and in ...
Mcleod Gang, India limi07As we left the guest house in Amritsar I slipped on some water...backpack and all ... ouch!! it hurt and really shook me up....a great start to our next leg of the journey especially as we were going on a rickety bus for 8 or so hours to Daramasala, i couldn't get up as i was so weighted down by my rucksack and day pack, I had to get call Mick back to pull me up!! did feel a prat!! Anyway off we ...
Daramasala, India gillip... and all the guesthouses in Mcleod Ganj is the fact that they have duvets! We had not seen a duvet since we left home. Most Indian hotels don't even give you a top-sheet, and most of India is too hot for that anyway, but Mcleod Ganj is 1,700m above see level and can get a bit nippy. The bad thing about having a duvet in a cold town is that when you wake up in the morning you just want to stay in bed! We managed to get up eventually though, and after a wander around we ...
