Our last full day in Mar Del Plata

... Joel had seafood again and I had chicken (shocker!). We then headed south to the downtown area. After finding a parking spot - with a similar mafia style parking to Buenos Aires, we went to Mar Del Plata's Modern Art Museum - with a large statue of a sea lion made from wrappers of a local favourite treat, the alfajores by Marta Minujin. Inside a few of the exhibits were closed due to the film festival events. I bought a nice pair of ear rings in ...

... We sat on the patio in Martin and Cecilia's Room and ate some churros, chatted and listened to music. The guys played some guitar, we sang along to some songs, we eventually had the picada, and finally round 9 decided to go out for a snack of empanadas at a place that Martin had eaten at previously. We were up early this morning to get ready to head to Mar Del Plata. Martin texted around 11am that they were on their way from his apartment so we headed out to the street. Quickly packed our bag in the back and headed to the highway. The trip to Mar Del Plata was about 400 kms and we passed through a few toll booths - mostly inexpensive, but the roads were good. The scenery is so much like home. If the billboards were in English I would of thought we were ...

This has been a wind down day with general relaxing and exchanging addresses. At the 0745 wake up call it was already 25 degrees so the days are definitely getting warmer. It is now time to pack away the cold weather clothes and brace for high temperatures. One particular presentation today was really inspiring. It was an honour to listen to Laurie Dexter, the team historian, talk about the first group to walk/ski across the Arctic. ...

... open restaurant. They don't open til eight, which is pretty late for us because service is slow and dinner doesn't arrive til nine and by then I could fall aslerp in my soup. The other thing is you have to be in the door promptly at eight because by ten past there's a line up. That tells me everyone else is starving too. So why doesn't someone open their doors earlier? They'd make a killing. And no one would have to wait in line outside in the really, really strong ...
