Getting up at 3:00 am is not nice, but the highway to the airport was empty. Checking in with Air Berlin was a new experience, but not quite positively. All information that we had keyed in for the online check in was irrelevant, we had to give them the complete information again. Arriving in Düsseldorf was no problem, up in the air and back down again. We had a 2.5 hour layover so we were able to fill our stomachs with a decent breakfast. Air Berlin had another check ...

After some online reconnaissance we ventured into the city today for a look around. We drove to a local train station and had no trouble buying day passes from a vending machine for €6 each. Parking was a little drama - the 'park n ride' we drove into closed at 9pm and there was a chance we'd be back later than that. ... if it can be avoided. The drive today was just a steady 5 hours 30 minutes from Rotterdam into northern Hamburg. We found the place first time today thanks to a little bit of help from our satnav. The countryside in western Germany is very bland to be honest. Mile after mile after mile of corn fields with the odd pine forest thrown in. Thankfully Germany appears better signposted than Holland and the motorways are in decent condition. I have had my first experience of the ...

... to him for almost an hour while it rained outside the large umbrella. He was a real nice young man – we were impressed.

After a bit more sightseeing we eventually found the underground back to Central Station and after a journey of no more than 37Km found our platform for trip back (yes we did call our German taxi driver too).

Next day we taxied again to Wisen and trained to Hamburg and this ...
