... Hakone is very much a tourist town, and is known for its food, onsen spas and close proximity to Mt Fuji. A short train trip takes you to a cable car which had 360 degree views of the mountain ranges that included Mt Fuji. As the cable car came over a mountain peak and Mt Fuji came into view, oooohs and aaahhhs from the passengers were loudly heard. It is quite a beautiful scene. Luckily the sky was ...

Here the hot springs, erupting geysers and bubbling pools of boiling mud dominate a fascinating landscape. We take the Hakone rope way from Sounzan down to Togendai on lake Ashinoko. We take a boat journey around the lake which is a water filled volcanic crater with a circumference of 18K. We are now making our way to Tokyo by ...

I expect it would have been beautiful under different circumstances but today the odds were certainly not in our ...

... one and ninety minutes for another, everything else was pretty quick though and there were only a couple of things we missed out. Three of the coasters had world records, although I'm not sure their records still stand. We did the (once) fastest, the one with the biggest gradient drop and Dunk & the kids did the tallest (I bottled that one!). The most notable thing about it though was Mount Fuji itself, as ...

      Mount Fuji? Where?

A travel blog entry by cat.mackenzie on Oct 15, 2014

... today but the weather was lousy, it just poured all day long. We persevered with the funicular railway, the cable cars, the visit to the top of the still active volcano (not the one that just went off though!). We did the 'pirate' cruise ship down Lake Ashi (where you should be able to see Fujisan) but it was all like walking in a cloud and ...
