By the time you get up to Plateau Rosa you're at 3,500m, 14km from the creche, half way through your beer and only then do you realise how late you are to pick up the kids. We were always late to pick the kids up!

Grace conveniently loved the crèche, so she spent a number of half days there during our stay. I was also pleasantly surprised ...

... of locals honoring the dead. Eventually the Dutchmen had to retire to their camp, but they were quickly replaced by 3 Americans from Georgia and two Danes. The Danes turned out to be quite accomplished musicians, their improv on the guitar and scat singing kept us going into the wee hours. The next day (today) my legs finally rebelled and said "no more hiking!" So today I'm just sitting on the terrace, reading, napping, and just taking in the view. Apparently ...

... to her feet. Just close my eyes and relax! We hit the trail at 0915 for the steady climb to Kleine Scheidegg. It climbs steeply right away and then the grade is not that bad. We walk below the Eiger wall and Than start to get glimpses of the Jungfrau peak. We even hike in a few little foresty areas with the rarest of things on this trail, shade. A short stop for water out of a spring, a few more steep sections, and we arrive at the top at 1055. We are both sweating ...
