... easy to communicate, unlike Paris where everything was written in French and we survived in supermarkets, post offices etc on 1/2 English, 1/2 schoolgirl French. Here comes the fun part, the transport system is very busy. Trams, buses and cars all share the same bit of road, cycle ways are everywhere with huge cycle parking areas at train stations etc. Around 60,000 bicycles are stolen each year so you'd better chain your bike ...

... for a coffee and wee stop. The bike path we were on was running beside a road with a reasonable bit of traffic on but it was perfectly fine. The bike paths are completely separate to the road. We got to Haarlem outskirts and of course hadn't been provided with a town map. Thankfully we'd had the foresight to take a photo on my phone of where the hotel was and the area around it. ... as we walked down one of them to exit the RDL in search for a bathroom (certainly didn't want to use one in the RDL...ewwww) There was a hole in the wall soccer car that looked safe and fairly empty to we went in for one last beer before heading back to the Prinsengracht.
