The land of volcanoes

... for anyone suffering from cardiac problems, claustrophobia, pregnancy, hearing problems, respiratory problems etc. Luckily we survived undamaged. We had hoped to have another trip up the Puy de Dome but the next day was cloudy, though still warm, so we went to the supermarket and then relaxed by the pool, ready for our next journey, to Bourges

Bike and Barge

Hi everyone I survived the bike and barge after completing about 350 ks for the week. The weather was sensational except for one day that we got caught in the rain riding home one day. Luckily we were near a village that had a bar so the group of 18 took the place over and sat it out. Martin the barge pilot and tour director claims he will not be able to go back there again. The food was amazing with a 3 course hot meal everynight, breakfasts and at ...

On to the Auvergne

... it was a Bank Holiday, as in the UK, but we saw roadworkers, builders and postmen - and there were no children anywhere. In the afternoon we found an Intermarche and bought some fruit and veg. Maybe Mondays are half days in these parts? At Charite, I decided it wasn't skirt weather after all and reverted to cargoes and fleece. We'd better have some sun soon, or I'm going to run out of clothes! We didn't see the sun ...

Vichy

I turned in fairly late last night, but had to be up fairly early this morning, since I needed to make the drive to Vichy for lunch. I was on the road a little after 8:00. It rained much of the way up, but the drive was still beautiful. The route took me very near the Festival site we've used the last two years and will again this year. It also took me near several of the volcanoes in the center of France. They're easily recognizable due to their ...

New Begininng

On Le Weekend we met a group of the French kids and clearly they fell in love with us. So shortly after that weekend they wanted to party with us again as soon as they could. And did we ever. Quentin had a number of us over to get to know us a little better. A couple 40s later we were much better acquainted. It was the start of a beautiful friendship.

Clermont: The Beginning

... like it. So we met up with some friends at the club that we had met in Vichy, and been hanging out with since we got here. Kate, Chelsea and I decided to go back to their house to drink some more around 4 am. We just sat there chilled, and drank some more. Its funny to have conversations with them since they know little English and we know little French. We finally passed out around 8am. By noon everyone was up and ready to go. We headed back to Mac Do's for some lunch...I ...

Vichy, the beginning

... Very cute, very clean. That night I met up with some people from my class, very randomly and we went to the Horse Races at the Hippdrome. It was pretty neat, and everyone was pretty cool. They had a heard of begals come out too, with guys on horses dressed in traditional English hunting outfits too. It really made me miss Kosmo. That night we headed to Le Gloulais. That's our pub. They love us there.

Serendipity

... french castle and enjoyed a meal served by a Count and Countess. Yet more serendipity. As we drove into the unassuming driveway, we were greeted by our friendly French host as he waved excitedly from his car, informing us in perfect English, "I am on my way to buy wine, of course, for dinner. My son will welcome you." His son, as it turned out was a 16-year-old who neglected his game of Halo for a few minutes to ...

Vesi
