... 11th century but the current one was built in 1850s. Much of the castle is being renovated which we assume has something to do with Schwerin being in East Germany after the war and it may have been damaged or at least not maintained by the communist government. There were alot of rooms already renovated, particularly the ones looking out onto the lake so lovely views through every window. ...

... short hop to Wismar ( another Heritage listed town). The traffic heavy. We found our hotel on a busy road just outside the old town and luckily have a room at the top on the back away from traffic and overlooking city garden plots. We walked into town for a meal but only one restaurant with any English so after looking around for a while ate there. We had a very good meal there in a nice atmosphere, a nice room with ...

Most of the items were everyday things from 1950's, 1960's, 1970's in East Germany. Yuk - rayon shift dresses! Started raining early evening. Off to Rugen Island ...

Today a 30min meandering walk to view the exhibits at the Neues Museum on Berlin's Museum Island. Then drive back to Hamburg via the impressive Schwerin Palace, a grand ducal residence and seat. Unfortunately we missed the guided tour and made do with an audio commentary via headphones. We lost half an hour during the drive due to a traffic jam resulting from an inexplicable transition from autobahn to a single lane road ending at a set of traffic lights. ...

    I'm taking it easy

Part of taking it easy is more hitchhiking. Don't get me wrong, I still like to move on. Staying in one spot for a long time without good reason, just doesn't do it for me. When I break up camp, the weather is not great. Today I'm planning on hitchhiking to Wismar. I walk to the border of Grevesmühlen and find a nice spot to hitchhike. It's not long before someone picks me up and drops me five kilometre from Wismar centre. I ...
