... Baltic Sea. Our first stop is Kuhlungsborn, a picturesque beach resort with a lovely walkway alongside of the beach with many small hotels and B&B's on the land side. The walkway is dotted with kiosks selling ice cream and drinks, and there are many small outdoor cafes along the walk. We enjoy the salt air and a long walk. The beer and fish sandwich are pretty great too. The weather started out warm but ...

Today we pack up and get ready to go to the summer house for a few days. We will get to see a little of the countryside and perhaps drive further north to the Baltic Sea. It is much like getting ready to go to Windermere, much food preparation and packing up is involved. We take two cars as there is much to take with us and we are taking Mara the dog (the Kleiner Munsterlander) with us. It is my first long drive on the autobahn, and it does take a little ...

On our way from Kiel to Berlin, we decided to stop in Schwerin and spend some hours to see the old town and the Schloss. If you're in the area, the Schwerin Castle is a "must-see". The impressive castle of the Mecklenburg family dates back to the 16th Century. The fact that it sits in the middle of the downtown, ...

Day 10 - Schloss Schwerin (Schwerin Castle)

Today we visited the most beautiful city of Schwerin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schwerin) . Schwerin is surrounded by many picturesque lakes. In 1160, Henry the Lion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_the _Lion) captured Schwerin. The town was subsequently expanded into a powerful regional centre. A castle was built, and expanded upon over the centuries, on this site. It is supposedly haunted by the small, impious ghost, called Petermännchen. ...
