    ... to go home. The campsite is right next door to a swimming lake but it is only small and packed. It has been so hot we haven’t moved from the shade all day. We have been sociable (I know, not like us at all!) and spoke to a Geordie couple. He plays the banjo and has a fine singing voice so he was entertaining his neighbours in the evenings.     ... a taxi to Landstuhl and got a room at a great hotel next to the train station. Parker got to have some beloved schnitzel for dinner and we got our train tickets ready for tomorrow.     Taking the ICE (high speed) train to Germany put us in Saarbrucken in less than 2I/2 hours. Helmut and Imgard Kerchner were there to greet us. We drove to Landstuhl and there saw Werner and Lennie Rosenberg. We stayed in the spacious guest apartment that Werner and Lennie have in their home and it was very comfortable.     ... and the overgrown bunkers. Almost at the end I missed a junction (again) and got back on the trail almost at the beginning and walked back to the parking lot there. That was it. Like I said, it's a short trek, only about 3 hours long. Yesterday it was perfect. I got out again, I didn't do a lot of stuff like this the last few years, but this is going to change now.

    ... Christopher pulled out a globe and we had to show everyone where Portland is and how we flew here. They were amazed at how far we had come. They were such nice people, and we told them to come visit us in Portland anytime. I wouldn't be surprised if at least a few of them took us up on the offer someday. After our visit, we went to look for the home of our Schlernitzauer ancestors in Hartziller. It is no longer standing, and a new home (built in the 1960s) ...
