    MAGICAL, COLOGN, KNOWN FOR ITS SCENTS

    ... They were there for the funeral of the man who owned the major newspaper in Cologne and so the church was cordoned off. We could not get into the church.

    so, we did what we had to, eat in a super elegant sweet bakery where we enjoyed dessert style cakes that were flooded with strawberries, cherries, etc., cream frosting, ......you get the picture.


    Unknown to me, COLOGNE IS FAMOUS FOR COLOGNE, PERFUME AND AFTERSHAVE.

    ... to spare. Back on bus for a continuous run through to Amsterdam. We seamlessly bypassed border into Netherlands, there was no border. Love Netherlands I have to say, even though it was raining and really windy. Beautifully green, animals back in numbers in the pastures. Very picturesque little villages, uniquely Dutch. Each of the European country towns have had a distinctive look even if they are only a few kilometres apart. The Dutch are by and large very tidy people ...

    ... twice the price we then got tram to house didnt take us long to remeber train station and which platform etc we needed.
    Interesting people on train got on abour a hour before Koblenz at Bingham.
    About 8 mixed gender and ages 1st out came all the cakes thenhuge bag buns huge bag salami jars gerkins etc then out out came the bubbles and beer then followed by hot pies (in tinfoil)

    ... apparently the local populace thought to be divine intervention (but I have a sneaky feeling it was left that way to act as a beacon for incoming bombing raids). However a decision was made to reconstruct the city as it had been so you have these old looking buildings which are post war.
