i was 15, i was in bavaria with the army cadets. i loved it! we were here for a week and we were here on an adventure sport week. we went to neuschwanstein castle where chitty chitty bang bang was filmed. we went mountaineering and kayaking. we also went on a day trip cycling into austria. it was a great thing so many things ...
Bavaria, Germany jennyferj... remember to “turn” right not left. Also I was freaking out that the edge of the road (me the passenger) always looked so close. We stayed overnight at Rothenberg, a fully wall enclosed 16th century town, all the houses and inns are authentic and at night the lighting in many of the shop windows gives a real feel of the world of Dickens and Tiny Tim. Would love to see it in winter with snow on the ground. Our guest house used to be the mayors house.
Romantic Road, Bavaria, Germany neverold... Canal runs just outside the walls.
nothing was open today, being sunday, but we enjoyed exploring the wall and the tiny houses and streets within. unfortunately, there are no plaques or signs explaining details of these historic buildings and towns. we are on our own to learn and discover more, but finding information on line has been difficult.
... that went into these models was amazing. For instance Neuschwanstein was accurate in every detail, including the throne room, complete with swirling dancers.
We stayed the whole day, so as to get our moneys' worth. We were there before 10 when it opened, and we left at 9pm when the park closed. So it was a long day. The kids left happy, having experienced the whole thing to its full extent, and having their Lego collection ...
Hi guys,
Before I start the palaver.... I was awarded a Churchill Fellowship for 2009/10 to work on a project with youth and glass. A'Mhara got my mail and tried to ring, email etc but we had no phone or IT where we were. How exciting is that?????
We are back from the Bavarian Forest. I have left the name of where we were on the map and above even though I am writing this at my sister's place in Gruendau. That way you can see where we went for the week ...
Yay, today we had a sleep in as we didn't pay the extra 10 Euro each for breakfast. After our sleep in we headed to the Roman Museum which is set up in an old church so really high ceilings. It was an interesting collection. We enjoyed lunch in the main square and then made our way to St.Mary’s Cathedral (it’s always 'Mary’), only one ...
Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany matt_and_ames... a walk to the main square, getting slightly lost as we'd forgotten to take a map but by following the signs to the only train station in Augsburg helped us back to a familiar setting. Our hotel has one computer with free access to the internet so we made full use of it after not being able to access our email/facebook/news since Nice.
Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany matt_and_ames... and spacious. We could look at some of the facilty which was used to keep Jewish people and others. And we saw some memorials for those who died or were killed there. After that we went to old town of Dachau. The palace there had a beautiful garden and we could see over Munich from there. After coming back from Dachau, we met up with Matt's friend, Jim, and had dinner at a beer garden.
Dachau, Germany mayuogura... and many people were enslaved, without much food. Many were perished bur a lot more prisoners were shipped off to other KZs. Prisoners were systematically exploited and exterminated. Dachau has a gas chamber that wasn't put in use, but they did have 4 crematories. Towards the end of the war there weren't enough coal to burn all the corpses. I walked to the barracks after the movie and took some pictures, and then got out and walked through the ...
Dachau, Germany alphatarget1... us into the tradition of it all. I've never seen John so excited. Beer steins, Pork knuckles, sausages, as well as pretty blonde Germans in their cute little outfits, with their boobs bursting out of their blouses. He didn't know what to do with himself. We were definitely happy were we stayed for the opening day. Most of the Aussies go to the Hoffbahaus, but it's full with drunk Aussies being idiots and we can get that at home so when we are here we want to be hanging ...
