6:15am wake up for bags to coach at 7:00am. A short shuttle bus ride to the ferry for our trip back to Athens, we were given a packed breakfast (which had a really yummy juice), our Contiki hoodies and it was time for a sleep. We were all dead tied and when we nearly arrived Jess had to go around and wake everyone up one by one. We hopped off the ferry to be greeted by another shuttle which had heaps of leg room...we appreciate the littlest things. A 2 ...
... destination was the Agora, the beating heart of ancient Athens.
The word Agora literally translates to meeting place, and was the centre of a persons social life in ancient times. The Agora hosted political events, military training, marketplaces and was even a place where citizens could exercise, or discuss the news of the day. The Agora was also used for ostracism, a strange tradition of ancient Athens in which citizens could be voted out of the city.
Wow what an absolutely amazing time I have just had in Athens and Greek Island hopping from Mykonos to Paros to Santorini to Ios with the Busabout crew. In my three months of travels leaving Greece has been the hardest place to leave so far and I am positive I will be back again! Over the last two weeks I have met the most amazing people (you know who you are!); had my fair share of wine (and tequila shots); danced the night away in (and on) bars; spent lots of time relaxing ...
... by 11:00am as she had someone else checking in today. When we discovered some bigger ants in the dining room, we decided to head out. As previously decided, we were going to call a taxi to take us to the Termini train station. But when we called, we got the recording that we usually get when we try to make a phone call in Italy that said the number was not correct. It was the number Mariastella had posted in the apartment. Oh well, let's just head to Piazza Novana as she also ...
... and churches. Not that there is anything wrong with that, and not to take away from any of the history of those old structures, I just don't think that they will be able to compare, for me at least.
We decided that we want to see some of the islands so we booked ourselves a little mini tour. We are going to Santorini for a few days, then Naxos, and then Paros. I think it will be a good time.
