    Neuschwanstein Castle

A travel blog entry by jlmcclure on Oct 27, 2014

Up and about at 7am and after some brekky we took a taxi to Hauptbahnhof (Central Station), where we started our tour to King Ludwig's castle. It is believed this castle is the idea behind Walt Disney's Snow White castle. The castle is quite a way out of Munich so off we go. First onto a train with our guide and our 7 other tour people, all English speaking, good start! We were on the first train for about 15 mins and then we were all ushered off and onto another train for about ...

    The Side Benefits of Insanity

... insane was "childish table manners." Chew with your mouth closed, people.)

So the king gets insanity, and the country gets a damn fine tourist attraction. I'd say win-win, but I am sure Ludwig would disagree.

As a tourist (as opposed to a monarch lacking dining etiquette), the castles are a beauty and a thrill to visit. The train whisks visitors to the Alpine region, surrounded by snowy mountains and clear blue ...

Shortly thereafter as we crossed into Germany I found myself on the infamous Autobahn. Contrary to popular belief, most parts of the roads (at least the roads I was on) are regulated by a speed limit, and that speed ...

Ludwig the Loco in the Land of Rococo

What Mozart is to Salzburg, so Ludwig II is to Bavaria. That truth exposes itself seemingly around every corner of this magical, fairy-tale countryside, but most assuredly when in the proximity of one of his famous castles. He became "King" at age 18, although "king" must be understood in the context of a constitutional monarchy, one in which he did not have the absolute power he so desired. In fact, it was his obsession with the power of a prior ...

    Meeting our group

A travel blog entry by judyinocala on Sep 08, 2014

... posts an information sheet in the lobby of our hotel with details of the next day's schedule. Those sheets are printed on colored paper to correspond to the bus they pertain to. German efficiency at its best.

Each bus has a different schedule because in many cases it's difficult to get 200 people all in the same place at the same time. So departure times are staggered, and itineraries ...
