This lovely city is set amongst large lakes and dominated by the Schloss (castle) which is on an island in one of the lakes. We drove into town early and parked, then got breakfast at a cafe/bakery in the main street. Then a service in the Dom or cathedral. All in German of course but very much the same format as the Lutheran services in Australia, There has been a castle on the island in ...

    Meidzyzdroje, Poland to Wismar, Germany

After breakfast we headed to the small ferry that shuttles across the estuary between Poland and Germany. A short crossing that costs nothing but one wonders why no bridge has been built. On Tuesday, we left Hamburg and drove to Malchow, via a medieval town, Schwerin, which had a huge castle. It was the former residence of the dukes and grand dukes of Mecklenburg. It was built in the mid C19, incorporating existing structures from the C16 and C17. There were even foundation remnants going back to 1000AD. Since 1990, it has mainly been used by the Regional Parliament of Mecklenburg-Pomerania. The castle is also a museum, and had been ...

Today a 30min meandering walk to view the exhibits at the Neues Museum on Berlin's Museum Island. Then drive back to Hamburg via the impressive Schwerin Palace, a grand ducal residence and seat. Unfortunately we missed the guided tour and made do with an audio commentary via headphones. We lost half an hour during the drive due to a traffic jam resulting from an inexplicable transition from autobahn to a single lane road ending at a set of traffic lights. ...

    I'm taking it easy

... five kilometre of walking is well within my 'take it easy' range and walk to the centre. There's two things I'd like to do; I need a new book and I'd like to use Internet. It's a battle to keep my phone charged. A battle I'm not fighting. When it's empty, it's empty. I'm not going out of my way to get it charged. I still have a lot of diary entries to digitalise. As long as I'm doing that, the battery will most likely be flat ...
