    We weren't being cooked alive this morning which was a treat due to some excellent pine trees (I have no idea what trees they were really) covering our patch of tent until 8.30. So we had a 'lie in' and cologne or koln as the Germans call it was in sight a mere 19 miles to cologne before lunchtime was the plan.     ... great cathedral. One of the oldest and tallest gothic churches in Europe. The city was very quiet and still sleeping so we walked the streets almost alone apart from a few delivery drivers and a very friendly postie who was only too happy to try and use her very limited English to help us find our way.
