    MAGICAL, COLOGN, KNOWN FOR ITS SCENTS

    ... They were there for the funeral of the man who owned the major newspaper in Cologne and so the church was cordoned off. We could not get into the church.

    so, we did what we had to, eat in a super elegant sweet bakery where we enjoyed dessert style cakes that were flooded with strawberries, cherries, etc., cream frosting, ......you get the picture.


    Unknown to me, COLOGNE IS FAMOUS FOR COLOGNE, PERFUME AND AFTERSHAVE.

    ... the portions were huge. Ordered like 3 portions and we were stuffed by the end of it. Visited the Köln Dom the next morning and that was the only attraction we ended up visiting because it was scorching & we just went shopping instead. The Dom was magnificent as usual but there was a service so we couldn't go walk around which ...

    This morning berthed at the side of the Rhine close to Cologne Cathedral. Had a look round it and then just wandered about the streets. Off to lunch now. While we are at lunch the boat is having to move to the other bank of the river. From there we are getting a city tour. Not much view through our porthole at our morning berth. Lol. Went on the city tour. Quite interesting. Didn't bother with more sightseeing ...

    Breakfast at the hostel was very good. There were loads of school parties there of all nationalities. I met some kids from Perthshire and some others from Sudbury. They had been visiting Fantasia, a giant funfair with lots of hairy rides. They were all pretty hyper and having a great time. The teachers were a bit frazzled though. We had head winds again but only bad in exposed places. Had a good ride with no stops to ask the way. The path ran alongside ...

    Left NZ 17th on Cathay pacific 1 30pm gave us lunch then turned the lights out and closed all the shutters while we flew over Australia, had a 2 hour stop Hong Kong then flew Lufthanza to Frankfurt arriving 5 30am very cold caught a train to Dusseldorf( changed train at Koblenz) ...
