... up and relaxed a bit before grabbing the free Sunday aperitif in the lounge (Spumontee) while the kids journaled and wrote postcards. We then moved to our assigned table in the dining room for dinner-- royal consume (kids and me) and potato dumplings with tomato butter (Michael), salad, cheese and bread, then veal shoulder (grown ups), fish (boys) and eggplant (Madelyn) followed by white chocolate mousse for dessert. Cheers to Rick Steves for the hotel ...

The 50 minute ride to Castelrotto (or Kastleruth in German) made everything better for me-- gorgeous, green Alp views with Swiss chalets dotted around everywhere. ... colours where water has seeped through and allowed lichen to grow on the rocks. We stopped at the Rifugio Lavaredo briefly and continued on to the Rifugio Locatelli, which was a very busy hut. Here I had a beer and Val had a mineral water. We went to to the summit of a mountain behind the hut with David, Hilary, Jules, Roy and Val, and I and took a few pictures. We saw some choughs flying and congregating in the rocks. Choughs are black birds which are relatively common in the ...

Today we had a sleep in and caught up on some washing. We had a wander around this typical ski resort with its shops specialising in sports clothes, ski gear and hiking boots. There are so many people here, taking advantage of the warm sunny weather - some with their families - and hiking, using the chair lifts or bicycling through the passes. But the most numerous vehicles are motorbikes. Everywhere we go we see signs welcoming bikers, advertising their ...
