... flatter land is densely populated. The cities look very ordinary from the train with mostly 60's style stalag apartment blocks that appeared in the economic boom after World War 2. Some cities were obliterated by American bombing so lost their historical buildings and of course many civilians also died.

After our superfast train to Okayama, our train to Chayamachi was a complete contrast. The train name on the board was "one man" and it was literally one man and one carriage. He not only drove the train, he took the fares and blew his own whistle.
