Today was a bit of a spare day, due to Nara being a shorter trip than planned, so I decided to head to Okayama which is on the route towards my next hostels destination of Hiroshima. Similarly to Himeji, Okayama has a castle and a famous garden(one of the top 3 in all of Japan) so I spent the late morning and early afternoon pottering around these sights. We left on the Ishizuchi 3 Limited Express train at 8.45am bound for Iyo-Saijo at 10.18am. It is a distance of about 110Km on the northern coast of Shikoku. We could see the bridge that we were on yesterday as well as the Seto Inland Sea. It was slightly drizzly but not enough to require a raincoat. Besides, it was only a 20 minute walk to the station and we would be on the train after that. It fined up once we reached Iyo-Saijo.

... on Shikoku. The bridge spans five islands and took 40 years and heaps of money to build. The bridge is over 13Km long and consists of three suspension bridges, two oblique suspension bridges and one truss bridge. The view while crossing the bridge is amazing.

Once we reached Takamatsu at 11.49am, Owen had arranged for several taxis to take our bags to the hotel. Unfortunately, the hotel was a lot further from the station than ...

... ferry ride there & back and it lovely sitting up at the front watching smaller islands go by as we headed towards Shodoshima, naturally we had to have some olive ice cream while waiting for the return ferry.

Next day was a short local train ride around the bay to Iyo Saigo to see the Shikoku Railway Museum, very new only opened this year it commemorating the ...
