We decided to stay our last 3 nights in the alps in the small village of Murren. It lies above the valley floor of Lauterbrunen. Many hang gliders came with their huge back packs and ran off the high ledge of Murren. Look closely and you will see the man in the middle of the picture and his yellow kite at the top of the picture.

We left Lausanne about noon for the 3-hour train ride to Bernese Oberland and Murren. We took regular rail, then a gondola and finally this "little train that could" up to the small, hilltop village of Murren. The weather was wonderful. VERY cold but at least there was no wind. The views as we went higher and higher were awe inspiring.

There were a few people at the station when I arrived, which seemed surprising for so early on a Sunday morning. The train arrived on ...

... near Lake Geneva. Then they reverse the whole thing. We changed trains and headed up the valley to Lauterbrunnen. If it was clear, we would be able to see the Jungfrau, the Moench, and the Eiger from the balcony of our hotel room. Not just see them, but almost touch them. We are also at the foot of the Schilthorn which was made famous by a James Bond movie. Sadly, the weather had started deteriorating just before we arrived, but ...
