Good morning. I am up before kids come through our adjoining room. Sheep were baaing and birds singing by 5AM with cold air coming through the window. We are in a village called Schonried in a quaint chalet with gorgeous views of the snow covered alps. Wood paneling, wood ceilings, and wood floors are packed with antiques. The kids found one of …

A short walk down the street we found the bakery where they make 4000 croissants a day. We toured the kitchen with walk-in refrigerators and deep ovens. Then we were given a quick lesson in making green marzipan alligators. We all came home with our goodies and no one yet has taken a bite of our little creations. Then off in a small bus to the …

We consulted the maps and the ...

Last night, I e-mailed our apartment owner for a recommendation on what to do today. Still no break in the clouds. I was so hoping to rent bikes and bike one of the many paths either in the valleys or along the lakes. She recommended a trip to Geissbach Falls by taking a boat ride on the Brienzersee from Interlaken. She told us we could rent bikes in Interlaken, but alas, we opted out this time around because the weather ...

Spying on Swiss Culture at Ballenberg

... for Switzerland included hiking and riding trams...in the mountains. We decided our best plan of action would be to head to the tourist information office right by the train station and get some suggestions. We got some good recommendations, one of which was Ballenberg Swiss Village, an open-air museum of Swiss heritage on the opposite end of the lake near Brienz. The train ride to Brienz was beautiful. Brienz is very close to Meiringen ...
