    ... their own place to that of Innsbruck as it is too much like a big city. As we left, Anne and myself were chatting and there is more to see in this area, so would like to return here and visit the little places as they all have a certain charm of their own.

    The drive back was quite uneventful, apart from the fact we stopped and peed in Germany. We got to Salzburg with a heap of time to spare, found the train left in 15minutes, so will deposit us in Vienna around 6 o'clock.

    It was about an hour away in Imst (near Innsbruck) and we went two different days.

    So basically you take a ski lift up to the top of a mountain (I did a bit of nail picking and lap staring during our rides up). Once up get in a plastic cart thingy and ride down the side of the mountain to the bottom. The carts are these individual seat roller coaster carts on metal rails.     ... down through the valley, a much more sensible option as it's almost flat. We did a 8klm round trip. The walking and bike paths here are just fabulous, well signed, meanders through small villages, "right of way" paths through people's property (just like in England), over creeks, and you look up and there are the alps which take your breath away.

    ... that were planned and the grand entrance with marble staircase, floors and walls and immaculate paintings which really gave the place a grandiose appearance fit for a Bavarian king. Climbing up the stairs we were greeted with rooms, each more astounding and unbelievably richer than the last. It appears that the Mad King was mad about the Sun King Louis IV and had the whole place designed as an homage to him and Versailles albeit on a smaller, but finer scale.
