... motorway. And we had no vignette.

This was where the sat nav was of its last use. It got us to within a few miles of the border, on B roads. Then, not knowing what counted as autobahn and what didn't, we were scarily on our own. For about 20 miles we skirted the border, unable to get in. Then we took a risk, a 400 euro risk, on an A road that we knew, from our map, led into Slovenia.

As it turned out, we were fine, not fined. But before we knew we ...

... of the surroundings, I'll make an exception for campsite Magdalene in Rieden, just outside Fussen. And also because, if you are ever visiting this area, it seems Magdalene is the only site that ever has places, or is prepared to squeeze people in. People were still turning up at 7pm last night and fighting over spaces. But it's a view worth fighting for. Wednesday started cloudy and rainy so we had a lazy breakfast of hot croissants from the campsite restaurant - gorgeous! The weather got brighter and the cloud lifted and so we decided it was a good day to try some Via Ferrata Climbing. We wandered into the village and spoke to the booking office who showed us all the possible routes, pointing out some good easy all day family routes for first timers - but ...

... An hour later the awning was complete with fairy lights, table - with table cloth, candles etc. We then sat very proudly in the awning as the sun set and people walked by and admired our lighting- thanks Kala! Today (Tuesday) we decided to go for a walk along to the next village Canazei. This is a huge ski area in the winter and it's weird seeing all the ski lifts in the summer. We had a lovely walk for about an hour or so through the ...

... it was off the Motorway and up again into the Dolomites. It's strange passing all the skiing slopes in mid summer, especially the Olympic Ski Jumps. We also passed a massive Road Cycle Race, fortunately on the other side as the Peloton was huge and there was no way to get past it. After about an hour of driving through the mountains we reached the campsite at Campitello di Fassa. 194 Miles but still a 7 Hour drive, completed safely anyway. ...
