A scary tale that needs to be told.

... booking my flight home tomorrow and going to my parents to lick my wounds - but then that would mean that they have won in a way and I wont let them do that. In time I can replace the things that have been stolen and it will be a nuisance and additional expense having to deal with insurance companies and red tape. But I worked ************* this trip and I intend to see it through. I know I am a better person than some stupid junkie with a knife on a trip.
Another day another country

We were off nice and early, a clear and sunny day looking good for an early border crossing.
Then Graham UK gets a puncture. Not bad though back on the road in 40 minutes, then 3 police road blocks in the next 50 miles. Graham is in unlucky mode and gets scammed by the police for $20 for an alleged oil leak, which is good considering the state of most of the local vehicles. Corrupt Honduran Police ...

More concrete...

Today was a good and productive day. Once again, I got super dirty. I was covered in both concrete and paint. We worked really hard mixing and making concrete - and we finished the walkway! It looks great =) We also took a break in the middle of concreting and painted another building around the school. Painting was a nice break for the back and arms, thats for sure! These two projects did not take the entire ...

Masaya Miracle

... an Alien between all the couples, the city-hoppers, the busy tourists and the baby-backpackers... My space is definitely more the quiet beach, the windy nature or somewhere else as a city. My options are going to Leon and than to the beach or right away to Jiquillio (far northwest of Nica, almost El Salvador) and then to Guatemala. By the way: I need some new pants and a nice bag and if you ever wanna buy such things, they told me, go! to Guatemala... ok...

Nicaragua, SEMANA SANTA!

... romantic atmosphere we went down to the lake to watch the sunset.. again with our beloved Flor the Caña.There got into a conversation with a Nica, who told us a lot about the country and mentality. After saying good-bye to the day he invited us to meet his family and a girl, who does some voluntering work and stays at his place. In the end we ended up in one of the "shop" of the village where all the clothes from all over the world arrive, which people ...

... s open once a week, got a vaca negra (root beer float only with coke) and found some great Mexican food in a nice hotel! Granada : Kathy´s Blueberry waffles for breakfast - very delicious. Checked out my first and only baseball game and it cost about 50 cents. Unfortunately didn´t realize you could pay more for seats in the shade. It was a little ghetto, I had some weird fried potato ball and had to down 2 liters of water ...

The Great Escape

... walk was nice and the locals were friendly. Tonight there was more entertainment in the square, with a band and people dancing, so we went along to watch and then went out for dinner, where we met a hilarious little boy selling trinkets, who kept telling me I was "Chica loca" (crazy chick) and trying to kiss me! How does he know me so well at first sight?!!. Granada is really lovely and I would definitely like to come back!

... smaller volcano last night so we could get up early and hike it. Don't worry, this one hasn't exploded in a long long time. Its an 8 hour hike through primary forest filled with monkeys and tropical birds. At the top is a crater/lake from where the volcano blew it's top. Because of the volcanic rock the soil is ideal for growing cocoa and coffee beans. The plantations were fun to see - and it was on my list of things that I really wanted to check out. There ...
