... wonderful villages up near the top that mainly service the ski traffic in winter and summer hikers. Two km from the summit of Col du Mollard is one such village, Albiez-Montrond. It can been seen in the pic from the summit view and where I filled my bidons.

I descended the other side of the climb and started with and Italian rider who I left behind a few k's down. He caught up at the bottom in the town of St Jean and said in broken ...

... was still cold and the cloud was very low. I was itching for a ride so decided to tackle some local Cols near us.

They were some great climbs, Villerzembrun climb with its hairpins and early steep ramps out of St Michel and Col de Beau Plan with forest mist through the clouds on quiet roads and only a fool like me out riding them. By the half way point the climb began to get steeper, swinging between 8 and 10%, and a light rain began to fall. Now that I was ...

... a special name for it? Ah, the French.

All tanked up with gazole we made our way and the first sign we saw was for Col de la Croix de Fer, another major climb on the Tour de France circuit. I was aware that this climb was in the area but unfortunately I was just not able to fit it into the plans. That said, nothing said we couldn't just drive on up. This Col is a long one at 28km long. It was mostly made up of 9-10% grades for the ...
