... is riding harder than other days. The overall winner has to be consistent which means racing hard everyday.

As we were climbing up the last portion of the Col De Mollard there were quite a few fans on the side of the road. Everyone is super friendly and cheer you on. They also do a double take as they see my huge bike frame and a big German climbing the mountain:)

We took a little break at the top of the Mollard. I got some great pictures of a huge KOM banner ...

... was there so I continued to climb. Eventually another ride leader was coming down this route and told me I had gone too far so I turned around and headed back down. Not far behind was Raymond. He had been chasing me down. The Cannuck has found his niche, climbing!

When we got to Thompson stage viewing area. They had multiple large tents set up, a buffet of food, and 2 large TVs with satellite so we could watch the race. The area atop the mountain was beautiful. You ...

... there were a couple of other people from the Thompson group so we stuck around together as we battled up the mountain. Along the way I stopped to take a picture of a monument for deceased cycling legend Marco Pantani.

By now we had been riding since 8:30 am with the majority of the time going up hill. We reached a point were there was a small restaurant towards the peak. I thought we had finally made it to the top until I saw a “2km to go” sign on ...

... or head for home. By now it was almost 2 pm. We left the hotel at
8:30 am so everyone was ready to head in. As we continued our decent we had an
unwelcome surprise. The road we were supposed to take was closed due to
construction. The only way home, take a detour that involved a 2.5 mile climb
at 8-10%. So much for finishing early. By now it was so hot the road tar was
beginning to melt a bit. The melting roads made the ascent seem that much
    harder and ...

At the foot of Glandon the event was halted for 15mins whilst they choppered away somebody injured for a crash. Chris told me later that he was stopped on Glandon as well for 45mins for another chopper evacuation.

Glandon was uncomfortable for me but at least the scenery was magnificent, rolling green hills, craggy rocks, waterfalls, little forrests plus the odd village or two....made it interesting.
