Costado Oeste del Parque Central, (West side of Central Park) Granada, Nicaragua, 552-4486

The obscene, sleep-shattering beep of the alarm clock drew us inexorably out of our slumber at the unwelcome pre-dawn time of 4.45 am. With heavy eye-lids and uncomprehending brains, we dazedly performed our ablutions and stumbled out of our cabin to the awaiting taxi. As we wound our way back to the ferry terminal at Coxen Hole, activity on the island began to increase - early risers taking advantage of the beginnings of a new day. We managed to doze off on some padded leather seats during t...
Granada, Nicaragua andanddanWe all liked Granada and considered it to be one of our favorite towns. It seemed to save Nicaragua for us as a country. The hotel was right on the square and in the thick of the city. Food was great and ambiance was very nice. This day started with short mountain ride to a National Park called Parque National Volcan Masaya. This is the oldest NP in the country. We rode right up to the crated after visiting a very nice visitor center. The rangers took some special interest in us and gave us a ...
Granada, Nicaragua jdswed
... a black leather purse, not a potato sack.
Luckily and impressively, Sophie struck up a conversation with a Granada local on the bus, making our introduction to the city quick and painless. The gentleman is also a lawyer, which could come in handy...he left us with his business card and assurance that we had a friend in him if needed. Way to go Soph!
Oh how I´ve missed rain! It is refreshing and, with our bags equipped with rain ...
... Inside, the floor was covered in paper a dirt and the place was dimly lit.
They had buses that left at 5am, 7am, 9am, and 12pm. The guy told us there was no room until 12pm. I asked what time that would put us in Granada. He said hold on and actually went outside to ask the woman who was selling things this question. I guess she was quite knowledgeable about TransNica, I still dont know if she worked for the company or not.

After a killer party in Cafe Nuit last night with the local Rum being consumed at the rate of knots, this morning was a slow start for most so we hopped onto a horse drawn carriage to see the city. Granada is simply stunning much more so than Leon it is probably my favorite city in Central America so far. The colonial architecture has been seriously well maintained so the colours are ...
Granada, Nicaragua salsita... smooth water in the crater of a nearby volcano. If this place were anymore laid back it would be extinct, although there is a marvellous raft in the middle of the lake you can entertain yourself with by jumping off, and kayaks for further laguna exploration, although I was feeling lazy (for a change) and stuck to occasional dips in the lake in between snoozing in a hammock. On Saturday I went in an American/Aussie contingent to come over all těpico for the day at ...

Granada, Nicaragua hilde... was formed by volcanic eruption 21,000 years ago and is over 200 meters deep and 6 km in diameter. Unfortunately, I was feeling so relaxed and lazy that I didn't take a lot of pictures here although it is well worthy of it. The hotel offers private as well as dorm rooms, meals, kayaks, floating dock and lakeside bar with hammocks. Perfect for a little R&R from the busy life of a traveler. :-) I settled into my dorm, changed ...
Masaya, Nicaragua margreet98... is 10 blocks away from the central plaza. While there is lots of tourists its not overload like in antigua where it seems to have stolen the charm of the place, its a nice mix, more then suchitoto which only had local tourism and a few peace corps volunteers and less then antigua a nice mix for what i think is probably my last colonial town on this trip (theres only so many volcanos colonial towns and ruins one can take in a few weeks before they ...
Granada, Nicaragua senorbrian... and shops have bulletin boards with flyer in English for things like yoga classes, macrobiotic cooking, blind massage, and montessori preschool. There`s also a Coldwell Banker, a Remax, and some other real estate company on the main square.
Places like this tend to annoy me. They seem inauthentic, the locals are tired of tourists, and you never feel like you´re discovering something new or special.
However, I took a ...
