    Barrea to Pescasseroli

... a campsite just outside Pescasseroli heading towards what in winter is the ski station. The weather is hot and sunny and after siesta, we walked back towards the town centre to have a mooch around and find the tourist information centre. Pescasseroli isn't perched on a hill but is still pretty enough in its own way. It seems to be mainly geared up for the ski season. The tourist information was closed so we had an ice cream and headed back to the campsite.

... of refugees. After he left the balcony we went on a walking tour with yesterday's guide starting at the piazza Navona , was full of restaurants and featured a Bernini fountain representing the four continents, Europe, Asia, Africa and America. Last day in Italy sadly. We went to the airport via Tivoli and a visit the Villa d'Este, which turned out to be more difficult to find than it should have been and once more TomTom took us through the cobbled back streets! Villa d'Este was worth the detour despite the heavy rain that kicked in part way round the gardens. Luckily we'd left the interior til last. The trip to Tivoli rounded off a fantastic 10 days in Italy. What a great holiday it's ...

... English planting style, with plants from all over the world living harmoniously side by side to glorious effect. A man made lake was dug out which Russell Page advised should not be too large and apparently every time he came to visit, it seemed to be larger! Lavinia clearly knew her own mind and whilst she was willing to listen to his advice, it was not followed to the letter, if her gut instinct told her otherwise. Formal and informal rooms open ...

... time to admire the church (although I know little about it, it was still beautiful) before heading out. We were in a rush to get to the shops by the Vatican so we could purchase any and all religious articles. Wednesday was creeping up on us, and it would be our papal audience day. Unfortunately for me, until Tuesday evening, I had purchased zero religious articles. It normally wouldn’t be too big of a deal, but this particular day we really had to hurry, we had a makeup Lit ...
