However, the weather didn't cooperate and it was raining/cloudy the majority of the day - so the peak was in the clouds - so, because we would not have a good view, we decided to do other things in the area. Wengen is a "car-free" village - in the sense that there is no road to Wengen - it is accessed only by train. ... which we got to by cable car. From here we had views to the lakes below and mountains beyond and enjoyed a nice lunch with a goodly amount of vegetables - something we have been missing so much. We also took a bus trip part way around one of the lakes to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Gardens everywhere are looking lovely, roses and spring flowers - and lots of beautiful peonies which make me think of ...

... the longest glacier in Europe. Inside the building there is a surround cinema, "alpine experience" display, an ice tunnel and high priced souvenir shops to fleece the tourists. But the genuine alpine experience was just outside: incredible views of the surrounding snow covered peaks and deep crevasses within the glacial ice. We took hundreds of photos; sure glad it's just megabytes of memory and not mega costs of film processing. After several hours of walking ...
