... 500 km of bike trails, but today we decided to stick to the coastal path heading into the national park. The dry heat and smell of the forest reminded us of Australia. All the way along the track were Rocky beaches and people swimming and sunbathing. Every now and then we would have to make a detour around the naturist parks (there were a few). Just for a laugh I was tempted to strip off and cycle naked through one of these areas but ...

... point from Italy. So we bid farewell to ham products three times a day as our slow ferry lived up to its billing with a chug out into the Adriatic Sea. The town of Rovinj was alive and buzzing when we arrived at 9.30pm. A local group was singing very loudly on a stage by the water. People were drinking, dinning and wandering the streets. The locals were friendly and everyone seemed to be having a good time. I think we are going to like it ...

Checked out of our Holiday Hotel early to return the rental car and caught a cab back into Pula. Word of warning, the buses from the Pula airport are not very frequent and appear to arrive after major flights land. That's not when we were there & we didn't want to wait.

Got up early today and headed out of fažana today with some great direction via Ivan ( gonna miss that guy ) to see the roman colosseum in pula today as well as many more roman era sites in the town. Pula is a busy city of about 70,000 with a huge history dating back over 3000 years. The colosseum is the obvious major draw here and it's clear why... The arena is in better shape than its much more famous sister in Rome although it's still in use...they were setting up ...

Inland Istria & Down the coast

... a headquarters for the nazi resistance. There is a midevil castle in the center of town on the edge of a huge limestone abyss going down several hundred feet with an underground passage that allows seawater in... Supposedly this canyon inspired Dantes inferno and one of Jules Verne's novels... Looking at it you can certainly see why. We continued southwest down Istria towards the coast for a couple hours looking for possibly camp south of the town of ...
