... appropriate sticker on the car to enable us to drive on Slovenian freeways (a vignette). "Oh well," I thought, "I suppose we'll just have to buy one." Nope. No such luck. We were being fined. And not just any fine. An on-the-spot fine of 150 euros!!!!! If we refused to pay the fine then our car could be confiscated for a period of up to 6 months, and then we would be liable for a 300 euro fine!! Welcome to Slovenia. Have a bloody nice day!!

We are on our way from Split to Istria - northern Croatia to stay in Rovinj and visit the surrounding hill towns. This is the longest drive from the South in Dalmatia to the Northern part of the town. We decide to make a pit stop in Opitaja. This town is where the Eastern elite partied (from the Hapsburg Empire), similar to the Côte d'Azur for Western Europe elitists.
