A night at the top of Stelvio Pass

A travel blog entry by adventurescot on Nov 01, 2014

... the road is becoming rather busy with cars which just does not seem right way out here in the wild.

Soon the road starts to climb once again and then heads over the top of a rather high mountain and there in the next valley is the large town of Livigno. The town is spread out over a large area and is just about made up of wooden buildings. It is extremely busy and soon I realise that this is more of an adventure town rather than just a town. It has all kinds of ...

Sunny Switzerland - a Hikers Paradise

... week were discussed as we walked through the peaceful village of Rappersville. Where we end up will depend on the weather. Apparently it will be sunny in the south so that's where we decided to head in the morning. This turned out to be a great choice!
By the end of the week we brushed the border of Lichenstein, spent a night in Italy and two more nights on a park bordering Austria....we actually hiked over the pass to eat a picnic lunch in Austria ...

Next stop the Nebelhorn in the Allgäu Alps

A travel blog entry by theresaford on Oct 10, 2014

The next (crazy!) idea I had was to tackle the Nebelhorn - http://www.das-hoechste.de/en/summer/mo untains/nebelhorn/ which is just a four hour drive away in the Allgäu. This was definitely the most difficult walking I've done so far. It was so steep at times with a variety of terrains from walking on tarmac roads ...

... their bells and wreaths of greenery with fresh flowers around their necks. Eldon thought he got a video of it, but for some reason it didn't work. It was so cool to see. They were bringing the cattle down from the high summer pastures to the lower winter area.

We had hoped to spend a night in this area but there was an obvious celebration going on in all the little villages. ...

Wonderful Wildspitze

A travel blog entry by rolandandlinda on Aug 28, 2014

Thursday 28 August

Moved on this morning, up the Pitztal valley, just south
of Imst. Went up to the Pitztal glacier, taking the Glacier Express(tunnel
train) followed Tyrol’s highest cable car to the restaurant at 3,440m, near the
top of the Wildspitze (3,774m). Perfect weather for a day in the snow – blue
skies and no wind.

Staying near Jerzens tonight. Had a great evening meal at
the campsite restaurant ...
