... and rather like an English seaside town, except that the shops sell foccacias and pizza. Our hotel is half a block from the beach but most of the stoney beach areas require you to pay to get in. You can hire a deck chair too, if you pay. We walked to the "old" town but didn't explore very much more. John picked up a paninni for dinner and sat on the balcony and ate it. What a rough life we lead! We have a tour guide and tour of Cinque Terre tomorrow. Let's hope the sea isn't too ...

... our lunch so that John could have wine for lunch Italian style followed by coffee. The sun was out now and it was about 22 degrees so we sat at the restaurant, by the lake, relaxing. Up early, had breakfast and met our tour guide at about 9am. It was raining so we took a brolley each and opted for raincoats. We had a quick chat about where we would go and fortunately what the guide suggested was what we wanted to do. So we were driven to the old town of Como first - about 15 minutes away by car. The old part of the city is walled on three sides as the people of Milan and Como were not keen on each other. Of course the unwalled side of the city is the lake. ...

The only island on Como has a very special restaurant that I was lucky enough to visit with new friends, Peter and Luana Harris from Perth, Australia.
