... trains were running 30 minutes late and it was quite a struggle getting on and off them. However we managed to visit every village (Riomaggiore was the last)and that was quite an accomplishment given the heat and the crowds.

Truly a beautiful area as, I hope, our pictures will show.

We got back to La Spezia about 5.00pm and then, incredibly, I found a wi-fi place where my computer actually worked and ...

... then went out again at night- not so bad as rain down to light drizzle and shops now open- great variety of little boutiques. Kim would love it. Dinner at Da Vasco - typical Tuscan food recommended by Maria. Zuppa Farro (beans and grain soup) a bit bland but great with black pepper and a bit of olive oil, Trippe ( in rich tomato and carrot sauce- fantastic) and finish with a sweet veg and raisin pie. Best meal yet for 29€ with a half red. Rain and thunder all ...

We waited for more than an hour for our food before the waiter finally sort-of admitted that he had forgotten to put in our order (after telling us numerous times that "it is coming soon"). ... There are two sets of rows that show the station information: one for the morning, one for the evening. The times all line up in columns. At the top of some of the columns is a letter that has a meaning described at the bottom of the schedule. A means festivale (weekends and holidays), B means non-festivale(weekdays only), and so on. I got those all figured out, but the letter is not repeated for the second set of rows. I made the assumption that since the rows are separated by ...

... it was trek day. We got the train to Corniglia for the walk between here and Monterosso via Vernazza. The girls did the walk up to Vernazza and then Josh, Joel and I did the last leg. Supposed to take 3.5 hours for our whole trek. Pumped it out in 1.45! We absolutely missioned between Vernazza and Monterosso, got the big lanky legs pumping. Spent the next couple of hours chilling out on the beach at Monterosso and had a few quieter beers on the beach ...
