Window Shopping in Venice
As we walked through the walkways of Venice we were delighted at the wonderful window shopping.
Food in Venice
The food was interesting. It was pretty good. We were warned that it was not the best. I was very expensive. We paid $50 for a spaghetti dinner. However, the best pizza I have ever eaten was on a little side street at a pizza per slice stand.
People Watching in Venice
The people were very interesting. Some of these I asked permission to take their photos. Others were taken as they walked by.
Our Hotel in Venice
We loved our hotel. The staff was gracious. The location was central. It was very close to San Marco Square. We had one of the best rooms. The absolutely best thing was waking up in the morning and hearing the gondola singers.

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Ala Venice
Loved it all - used Italiatour
I booked the trip through Italiatour, for myself and my son. For $1700, we flew from JFK, took a water-taxi right to the Ala, stayed for five nights, and reversed the travel. Italiatour covered all of that. The Ala had wonderful rooms, fabulous breakfasts, and an excellent location. I'd go back to the same hotel, were I again in Venice. Loved it.
Great value, clean, great breakfast
We arrived one day early in Venice and needed a hotel for the night before our other hotel's reservation began. This place was perfect given the low cost (120EUR). Great deal given high Venice prices. Rooms are small, but clean. Breakfast was great, lots of variety. Staff was friendly. Our room had a small balcony on a side canal. Great location, close to St. Mark's Square and Accademia bridge. Our other hotel was a "5 star" that listed for 400EUR/night (we used points to get it for free). We would have been just as happy staying at Hotel Ala paying the 120EUR/night. No need to spend lots of money on a hotel in Venice. You shouldn't be spending much time in your room anyway! Would definitely stay here again if prices remain the same.
Good experience in Venice
Nice Hotel, but was transferred to a cheaper "sister" hotel the first night due to "computer problems". We stayed in a nice room the second night at Ala and had the best breakfest of any of the hotels we stayed at in Italy.
Great hotel - good location
Took my 72 year old mother and her friend to this hotel - a good choice. Best rooms I've ever had in an Italian mid-price hotel - lovely and bright rooms and bathrooms.Great location and good staff. Gondoliers singing under her window helped to make Mum's holiday special. Don't expect a lie-in as church bells very close by but that isn't a problem as you'd want to be out early anyway. Make sure you take a water taxi into or out of Venice to the airport - a surprise treat as they take you through the canals before reaching open water.
Ala-Great find
Great hotel, great location, substatial and tasty breakfast all for 120 per room per night. Book now!
Uggg
Terrible hotel. Requested room with balcony. Given room with no windows. Management rude and unhelpful.
Perfect for us
We were there in Sept 2000 for 4 days with another couple (all in our late 50ies). The rooms were small (as expected) but great location...a quick walk to San Marco Plaza, just off the Grand Canal with views out the window of smaller canals with traffic that continued (pleasantly) untill 11pm.
They have a truely great buffet breakfast that came with the room rate. The concierge staff was most helpful making our dinner reservations.
I would stay there again.
A Wonderful Place in Venice
We stayed there last week for three days, had a double superior (non-smoking), pricey $260, but worth it.
Great location, right on water, easy to get around, very helpful staff.
There are only about 10 non-smoking rooms. We splurged and also got a canal view, which to be honest wasn't necessary. The screenless window was below waist level and you could easily tip in...however, it was neat to see gondoliers coming in under with the musicians on board (private concert.)
The breakfast was very ample, also the robe and slippers in room was luxury! We would definitely stay there again!
Character and charm plus good service
Stayed here in September 2002. Not cheap, but this hotel combines character and atmosphere and the staff are helpful. The buffet breakfasts offer a wide choice of good quality food every morning including local cheeses and pastries including a lovely fruit tart. On the negative side some of the rooms have tiny, basic bathrooms. There are, however, single bedrooms available which may be a bonus for those travelling alone.
