... the men are very, very funny, teasing their wives and us. They correct us when we tell others that the church opens at three, no, no it opens at fifteen. They explain that three can mean three in the morning, but that Italians don't make this mistake, because they use all the numbers they know EXACTLY what time one is talking about, we Americans make mistakes. ... four days in Gallipoli we headed for Taranto, the port where we would meet my sister Sue at the station, she had caught the train down from Naples and was to stay with us on Orca for three weeks. Sue would leave us in Palermo, Sicily and then fly to Naples and then from there back to New Zealand. The trip to Taranto went without any major weather but was still a journey of some nine hours.
