          Piran - Slovenian Istria

Slovenia has only 16 miles of coastline, not much compared to Croatia's thousands of miles of coast when you include all of its islands and peninsulas. The short stretch is quite developed with an industrial port city (Koper), a swank resort (Portoroz), and a few other old towns. The one real attraction, though, is Piran, a beautiful old town on a peninsula similar to Porec and Rovinj in Croatian Istria but ...

The original itinerary included a visit to the coastal towns of Piran and Portoroz. Unfortunately, the day tour to these centres did not operate on the day I wanted so I had to make alternative arrangements using public transport. The need to rely on public transport cut down the time available for exploration so this visit will be superficial at best. However, I hope these photos will give you a feel ...

There was a noise that didn't sound too good and Kerry knew we had a flat tyre but it was shredded by the time we found a safe place to stop. It was raining and we had just passed through the boarder of Slovenia into Italy when the tyre decided to blow and we had to park in a private driveway ...

... village with multi colored homes and shops. We wandered around the canals for a while and then took in a lazy lunch at da Romano which Andreas from Hotel Gabrielli had advised us to eat at. Best fish in town he said. Well we are not big on fish back home but Tim went for the Monkfish with Olive Oil and lemon and I the Fried Shrimp. It was lovely and Tim said his fish was the best he had ever had and Luke engulfed his Spaghetti today was a winner.

... lots of water pressure. Like, one of those ones that kind of stings you it's so much. Then imagine getting in there fully clothed with all your stuff, sticking your face in and trying to look around. Haha! It was like nothing we've ever experienced. We get into the hotel and are trying to wring our clothes out before we walk through the lounge area but it was pretty useless. I tried to make my dress as appropriate-looking as possible and we walked in. There was ...
