    ... had swum out and proceeded to get on several of the pieces only to get the attendant's whistle. It took them a while, but they eventually realized that he was not whistling at them because they were getting on or off wrong, but because they had not paid for wristbands. So beach access was free, but everything else required an extra fee, kind of like flying coach.

    ... the hilltops. Then we rounded the last turn and there was the parking lot full of tour buses that had come up the other road. Oh, and the castle sitting in the mouth of a cave as the guide book had said it would. It was spectacular, and required that many photos be taken even before we got into it.

    The ladies on the island of Burano back in the 1500's started to make lace as a way of earning extra income to supplement the fishing that the men did. There are it seems seven different stitches in lace making and so each woman learned how to do one sort of stitch perfectly and they got together and passed the lace around to make the patterns using the different stitches.     The next day we went into Venice. Very enjoyable ferry and approaching Venice from the water is magical and the way merchants have arrived for thousands of years. In our case we were only two of the thousands of tourists who take over the city every day of the year.

    ... on the water busses is that there are often 20-30 mins between them. So although you might be at the stop and ready to go, you're stuck for awhile. And that happened this morning. It was 1 by the time we got to Burano, and the trip was 50 mins on the last bus rather than 30 and we had to switch busses. First stop once we got there was for food, since we were worried all the places might be closing soon. We each got (and finished) a pizza and were feeling ...
