    Honeymoon in Spain

My wife and I recently visited Costa Brava (April 2013) as part of a two week honeymoon in Spain. Our stay at the Hotel Aigua Blava could not have been better. Although this was the end of the "off season" and some of the amenities were not operating, the Hotel was better than advertised. The views of the coast are stunning. The room was a very nice size, with a king sized bed, plenty of closet space and a sitting area with a coach and coffee table.

The staff was amazingly friendly. The main restaurant serves great food prepared in the typical Catalan fashion. It was a little too cold for a dip in the pool, but the grounds of the resort were very well maintained.

The Hotel staff sent a bottle of Cava to our room in celebration of our honeymoon. Everyone associated with the Hotel went out of their way to make our stay special.

Well, if you want somewhere with stunning views, friendly staff, flawless menu and desserts to die for I highly recommend Hotel Aiguablava. The big table of us ordered quite possibly everything on the menu and there wasn't a single complaint. Dessert followed and there was no complaining, in fact no conversation, something's always good when it causes silence.
    Love this place!

I mostly get a 'who is this weird guy' kind of look and usually a smile or two. One nice tradition in Europe is the no tipping policy. Waiters get a decent living wage and the price of the meal includes the cost of the service. Eating out in Europe involves the ...

Today is the National Day of Catalonia (La Diana Nacional de Cataluyna) when all of Catalonia celebrate the end of a 14 month siege of Barcelona that took place on 1714. All the citizens enjoy a national holiday, there are celebrations and political demonstrations as about half of the Catalonians would like to separate from Spain. We started our second cycle day leaving Olot and started the ride on the ...

A quick stop on the way to Barcelona was Girona, a recommendation in the guide books for its medieval centre. We left the van parked in the baking sun while we took our customary walk in the hottest part of the day to look around, and it was certainly worth a stop. The centre is a collection of alleys, bridges, shops, cafés and churches - enough to entertain us for an hour or 2. The kids found a great sweet shop, and we managed to pick up the customary stickers for the van as ...
